Smart Cities has had a huge effect on technology this last year. Topics such as New mobility offerings, Continued consolidation, The changing face of parking, Scooter dominance over bikes, New ways to pay and 5G will be addressed.

A Smart city is an urban area that uses different types of electronic Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to collect data and then use insights gained from that data to manage assets, resources, and services efficiently. This includes data collected from citizens, devices, and assets that are processed and analyzed to monitor and manage traffic and transportation systems, power plants, utilities, water supply networks, waste management, crime detection, information systems, schools, libraries, hospitals, and other community services.

The Smart city concept integrates information and communication technology (ICT), and various physical devices connected to the IoT network to optimize the efficiency of city operations and services and connect to citizens. Smart city technology allows city officials to interact directly with both community and city infrastructure and to monitor what is happening in the city and how the city is evolving. ICT is used to enhance the quality, performance, and interactivity of urban services, to reduce costs and resource consumption and to increase contact between citizens and government. Smart city applications are developed to manage urban flows and allow for real-time responses. A Smart city may, therefore, be more prepared to respond to challenges than one with a simple “transactional” relationship with its citizens. Yet, the term itself remains unclear to its specifics and therefore, open to many interpretations.

All-Day JavaScript Workshop @ITPalooza

All-Day JavaScript Workshop @ITPalooza

Start Time: 12/05/2019 08:00 AM
End Time: 12/05/2019 03:00 PM
Location: Room 220

JavaScript is constantly in a state of flux. There are new frameworks, best practices, methodologies, language features, and devices to support all the time.

As you gain experience you’ll find one constant, fundamentals. Understanding the fundamentals will allow you to sift through the noise, use frameworks that have staying power, apply methodologies that are right for the project, and dabble in supporting the various new devices.

In this workshop, we are going to take it all the way back to the basics. We will gain a deeper understanding of JavaScript by taking a more detailed look at topics you are already familiar with, as well as some newer topics that are now a part of modern browsers. Some of the topics we are going to focus on are; Variables, Functions, Scope, Objects, Arrays, Coercion, Operators, the DOM, ES2015+, and much much more.

The workshop is broken down into sections. Each section will consist of a short lecture, to introduce a topic, some sample code, and then exercises. This is geared toward getting you as many hands-on experiences as possible.

By the end of the course, you will walk away with a comprehensive understanding of what you do on a daily basis. This will allow you to make better decisions on which new framework to use, or which methodology is correct for your current project, and when and where to apply new language features. Our aim is to demystify the JavaScript language just a bit and put you in a position to grow.
