Are we there yet? – South Florida journey’s toward becoming a tech hub

South Florida is unique in many ways and none more so than our geography. On the one hand our location to Latin America has made Miami the default gateway for trade to the region. On the other hand our almost 200 mile long tri-county presents unique challenges to our business community. In a world where collaboration is key, getting groups of people around the same table can be troublesome. Nevertheless, our tech community is strong and growing thanks in no small part to the efforts of groups like Venture Hive and Incubate Miami.

South Florida tech industry poised for growth

South Florida’s technology industry is at a turning point, poised for rapid growth, observers say.

To ensure the industry stays on course, the nonprofit South Florida Technology Alliance is launching a new campaign this week to raise the tech sector’s profile inside — and outside — the region.

But increasing awareness is not the only mission. Greater collaboration between existing technology companies and programs is critical to bringing in new companies, startup capital and tech professionals to the region, industry members say.

South Florida’s app economy emerging on many fronts – Business Monday – MiamiHerald.com

By one measure, South Florida’s app economy appears to be growing faster than the overall economy. The number of payroll jobs in information services, a broad sector of the economy encompassing software development and publishing, has risen by 1,200 in Miami-Dade and Broward counties since 2010, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The 12-month average for the two counties increased to 35,800 last year from 35,000 in 2011, a 2.3 percent rise, about double the growth rate of total non-farm employment in the two counties. National employment in information services totaled 2,688,000 in June, virtually unchanged from a year ago, the U.S. Department of Labor reported Friday.

Subject: SQL Saturday

Subject: SQL SaturdayAlex,

I want to personally thank you for organizing SQL Saturday. SQL Saturday is one of the best technology events for my developers. It broadens their knowledge of their world outside of the direct tools for programmers.

Best regards,
