Windows 8 brings a radical new user interface to the Windows platform. Along with the new UI come new design paradigms and principles. Brent Schooley, author of “Designing for Windows 8”, will show us how to create apps in this new design style. Then Jeremy Miranda show us how lambda functions work and how we can effectively use them in our code. This will be an exciting night of Windows 8 and hardcore code you don’t want to miss this!

We will also be giving away more books, swag, and more one-month subscriptions to PluralSight.

Designing for Windows 8

Taking inspirational cues from Bauhaus design, International Typographic Style, and cinematography, the Windows 8 UI design style brings an application to life while presenting content clearly and beautifully. This session is intended to help developers and designers understand the design concepts and basic building blocks of the Windows 8 user interface.  In this session, you will be introduced to the principles behind this design style and learn how to effectively apply these principles in your applications.

Brent Schooley is a Technical Evangelist for Infragistics with a focus on mobile platforms. He has been working with Microsoft technologies since 2004. His interests include client and mobile application development and user experience design with a recent emphasis on Windows 8 and Windows Phone. With keen attention to detail and strong technical & design crossover skills, Brent has always been able to relate to both designers and developers to help them achieve their goals.

Understanding Lambda Functions

Who are the delegates? How do you write anonymous methods? Are expression trees really for me? In this intro talk, we’re going to demystify the lambda expression and show how to write simpler cleaner code by implementing these magical creatures. So whether your an Tri-Lamb, Alpha Beta, or just a good Ole’ .Net dude, this talk will not only save your life, it will make your code more aesthetic and show you how to unleash the awesome power that is the Lambda Expression.

Jeremy Miranda served nine years in the Marine Corps as a Communications Chief (Electronics Maintenance). He has a B.A. in Psychology and is working on a M.S. in Computer Science. Jeremy builds custom devices for local start-ups, works in C++ and Java, and has aspirations of one day becoming Tony Stark.
