C3/Cloud Computing acquires SFDA service division

C3/Cloud Computing Concepts has completed the acquisition of the South Florida Digital Alliance’s (SFDA) service division, which it has managed since January.

The SFDA is a nonprofit charitable foundation whose mission is to expand digital literacy for South Florida residents regardless of their income levels. Don Slesnick III, executive director of the SFDA, leads its executive team with Jim Osteen, director of community relations.

The division provides internet access services to universities, schools, nonprofits and large commercial accounts throughout South Florida. Delray Beach cloud-based technologies provider C3 did not disclose the terms of the deal.

“Our team is excited to formally welcome our new friends and colleagues to the C3 family,” said Rick Mancinelli, CEO of C3. “As part of C3, they will enjoy access to a much broader product portfolio, competitive service pricing, and an engineering team steeped in both experience and expertise.”

This is sure to be another “not to miss” SFIMA educational event.

Google is known for being the search engine of the world, and that is due in part to the algorithm along with their minor and core updates aimed at improving searchers’ user experience.

Each year, Google changes its search algorithm around 500–600 times. While most of these changes are minor, Google occasionally rolls out a “major” algorithmic update (such as Google Panda and Google Penguin) that affects search results in significant ways.

Wondering what’s new with Google search?

  • Core updates?
  • Mobile-first indexing?
  • Rich Snippets?
  • Zero result SERPS?
  • Is a “major” algorithmic change in the pipeline?
  • What steps can you make to ensure that your website keeps up with their ever-changing algorithm updates?

Gary Illyes, webmaster trends analyst at Google, joins South Florida Interactive Marketing Association on September 13th, to share insights on Google’s state of search and what kind of changes can be expected moving forward.

Miami has created more than 4,000 tech jobs. But there’s a catch

A new study puts Miami’s efforts to shift its economy away from its traditional hospitality base towards higher-skilled services into perspective—but also shows that an old problem may be rearing its head.

In its annual “Scoring Tech Talent in North America” report, real estate group CBRE calculates that between 2012 and 2017, Miami added 4,080 tech jobs, representing a 21.5% increase over that time period.

Miami companies are underpaying their high-skilled workers, making the cost of living seem much higher.

Even better news: Miami is now producing thousands of tech-degree graduates—6,025 over the past 5 years, CBRE says. That includes degrees like computer engineering, math, and statistics.
