GeekiWood 2015 – Dec 5

GeekiWood 2015 – Dec 5

GeekiWood 2015 is Coming Soon.

“GeekiWood 2015” –  empowering young women in middle schools to have a greater appreciation for science, technology, engineering, arts, math (STEAM) and this year entrepreneurship, areas in which women are vastly underrepresented both as courses of study and as professions. The event occurs on December 5 at Florida International University.

The GeekiWood concept was created by Noreen Legault Mendoza, founder of the non-profit organization Geeki Girls. Under her direction, GeekiWood has grown to attract hundreds of young women to participate in its unique blend of hands-on activities and interactive demonstrations showcasing all elements of STEM+Art = STEAM. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)

The appeal of GeekiWood is its one-of-a-kind ability, under the guidance of scientists, educators, technicians and other professionals, to blend the magic of movies and television in a way that takes attendees on a journey of discovery.  As a result they become intrigued with realizing – much to their delight and to some surprise – their interest in  STEAM and how it is relevant and impacts their everyday lives. Much like a film festival, attendees will sign up for a variety of exciting workshops and activities geared to their areas of interest.

To make this full day event as inclusive as possible, we charge just $10 per attendee.  This includes all program materials, completion certificate,    t-shirt and lunch.  Students who participate in free or discounted lunch programs at their school are admitted free of charge. Our goal is to raise $15,000 that will be used to cover our expenses and have the event TOTALLY FREE to 400 middle-school students. In order to meet this goal, we are asking for sponsorship from local business and individuals like your self.  To Donate or Volunteer visit www.geekigirl.org
