LOTS OF TALK MATERIAL TONIGHT so we’ll be starting on time, introductions beforehand. There will also be special WordCamp Miami news, and a brief organizer’s meeting for those who want to stick around.
If you want to speak or give a 5 minute presentation, let us know and we can potentially add you to the list. ROOM NUMBER: 4030 (4th Floor)
Talk #1: Jean Felisme – Going over a few quick points on creating themes or web projects that are client friendly. Your clients should know how to add, edit and delete any content on their website without the need to reach out to a developer. I will go over how to provide good documentation and a few best practices.
Talk #2: Backing Up Your WordPress Site – A brief overview of the moving parts of a WP install/Setup such as database, application and data files will be covered first. Next, we’ll delve more into the tools and procedures required to perform a manual (non-plugin) backup of a WP Site.
Talk #3: The WordPress REST API – This talk will help introduce developers to the current state of the WordPress API, and how it’s been newly integrated with the latest version of WordPress. We’ll start by outlining the basics of the API and show you how you can start using it. The talk will then go on to discuss the future of the API and then show how it can be used to create some unique themes and applications. This presentation is aimed for developers regardless of experience with APIs – even if you haven’t worked with an API deeply – now is a perfect time to start. We’ll explore how easy the API is to work with and give guidance how to customize it. The REST API is going to be one of the most exciting additions to WordPress Core for a long time.
