Systems Engineer

 

Job Description:

The Systems Engineer is responsible for configuring, installing, programming, and troubleshooting Interactive Television systems at resort properties and cruise ships. The position requires overseas travel for extended periods (3 to 6 weeks) for projects several times per year. Candidate mus be bilingual English/Spanish

Skills Required:

  • Planning and designing network implementation
  • Design network physical topology
  • Create IP scheme
  • Create network diagram
  • Create security document
  • Design network layout
  • Design patch panel scheme
  • Assist in creating a building list of materials
  • Building and configuring the headend equipment
  • Install and configure Windows operating systems
  • Install and configure Microsoft products (SQL, IIS, DHCP, DNS, ASP.NET, Active Directory)
  • Install and configure proprietary software
  • Configure and test switches and routers
  • Configure and test digital encoders
  • Install and configure peripherals
  • Installing, testing, upgrading, and training of system
  • Mount servers, digital encoders, switches, and UPSs in allocated locations
  • Wire network equipment and cable management
  • Integrate and test client's billing software with Allin's system
  • Integrate and test client's network with Allin's system
  • Install work and test station
  • Test all headend equipment
  • Collaborate with development for any upgrades
  • Provide daily updates to Project Lead
  • Train client operator to use and test the system
  • Communicate and collaborate with client's staff (technical, management)
  • Completing post project duties
  • Create final documentation
  • Collaborate with other departments on outstanding issues
  • Meet with management to summarize installation

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Meet with management to summarize installation

 

Knowledge of/experience with any of the following is a plus:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Network +, MCSE, or equivalent
  • SQL ( SQL server 2005/2008, SQL reporting services)
  • IIS, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory
  • 802.1Q, ACLs, Subnetting
  • Network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, IGMP, RTSP, STP)
  • Switches and routers (Telnet, hyperterminal)
  • Computer hardware (hard drives, memory, CPUs, etc.)
  • RF components (including modulators, cabling, and frequencies)
  • Terminating cables
  • Microsoft Office (Visio, Word, Excel, Outlook)

 

Special Requirements:

  • Ability to work a 60% travel schedule
  • Ability and desire to travel overseas by plane or ship for installation projects
  • Ability to work overseas in a foreign environment
  • Adaptable to a changeable travel schedule (Client dictates travel schedule and arrangements)
  • Ability to travel independently and communicate with non-English speaking people
  • Ability to work 10 hours a day when traveling
  • Ability to work in close quarters with others
  • Ability to stand, and walk for long periods of time, at least eight hours per day
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
  • Ability to walk up stairs
  • Ability to work in a shipyard environment with welding, cutting, and various workers
  • Ability to work in noisy and hot or cold working conditions
