dd0s-attackIt’s hard to believe but there it is. Friday’s massive cyber-attack that affected huge swaths of the US and Europe was aided by the plethora of devices in our homes. The unprecedented DDoS attack was aided by possibly thousands of compromised home devices.

With millions of internet connected devices in our homes, it was only a matter of time before a group of hackers decided to press them into service. Using code from a previous cyber-attack, hackers infected IoT devices and built a giant BotNet to hammer the DNS servers at Dyn with upward of a trillion kB of data requests.

This made it impossible for uses to access many of the US’ most popular websites from PayPal to Amazon.
