LinkedIn’s Monica Lewis says while it might seem easier to look for a job outside of your company, it’s important to remember the many advantages you have by making a move internally.

It’s clear what people want from work has significantly evolved in the past couple of years, whether that’s a healthier work-life balance, a better culture fit, or moving into an entirely new industry. These shifts fueled movements like “The Great Reshuffle,” where people changed jobs at unprecedented rates, to more recent sentiments from professionals experiencing resignation regret or “Quick Quitting” their new jobs.

LinkedIn data shows that compared to last year, the rate at which workers are leaving their new jobs in less than a year is increasing, most pronounced in industries like Arts and Recreation, Technology and Media, and Administrative and Support Services.

With hiring taking a dip and signals there may be some cooling to come, exploring open jobs internally is becoming an important consideration for professionals as they question whether the grass is actually greener on the other side.

While it might seem easier to look for a job outside of your company, it’s important to remember the many advantages you have by making a move internally. You’re already familiar with the business, culture, and how things get done. And, if you want to make a career pivot, it’s often easier to do that within your company.
