Cloud Security Alliance – Joint meeting with InfraGard South Florida Chapter

The night of January 16th was a wake-up call for Alex Funkhouser – President of Sherlock Tech and President of the Cloud Security Alliance, South Florida Chapter – as he began to receive calls telling him that his company web site and email service was down.

“I found out how easy it is to bring down a company.  All of our internet communication and presence was disrupted”, remarked Mr. Funkhouser.  “I have heard of major banks losing their web sites due to an attack, but I didn’t think it would happen to us”.

Michael Scheidell is a Certified CISO (C|CISO), an internationally recognized speaker and expert in the data privacy and security community, with a strong history of innovation and entrepreneurship.

As Former CTO/CSO of SECNAP Network Security he developed SECNAP’s IT Risk and Assessment framework that is used to validate and test risk in major health care and financial organizations.

In the role of Chief Development Officer, Mr. Scheidell designed and was granted a patent on a method of intrusion prevention that was the core of SECNAP’s Managed Security Services platform and developed SECNAP’s Secure Operations Center. Additionally, he designed and implemented a custom private cloud and virtualization platform for SECNAP’s award winning SpammerTrap(r) email security and encryption system.

Sr. Information Security professional with over 20 years of experience in the Information Technology field with focus in Information Assurance (IA) and compliance. Extensive experience in planning, developing, configuring, and supporting network systems with strong emphasis in Information Security. For the last few years, my focus has been the development of Information Security, C&A, and compliance (GLBA, FISMA C&A, PCI-DSS and SOX), including security controls auditing and risk management. Strong background in supporting mission critical incident response teams, security controls testing and verification, and implementation of IA programs.

Alex was CEO of his first company at the age of five, when he sold his father’s organically grown vegetables door to door. In 1980, he wrote his first lines of code on a TRS-80. At 15, he bought a 1966 Ford Mustang GT with the funds from his second company, a lawn-care business. In 2005, Funkhouser opened his fifth business, Sherlock Technology Staffing & Recruiting, opening up international recruitment call centers across the world to help companies around the globe. Funkhouser is a headlining speaker throughout South Florida and has moderated international forums such as the Staffing Industry Executive Forum. His companies have consulted with many top international companies, including local heavy weights Carnival Corp., Office Depot and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. From college to present, Funkhouser has consistently won awards for his entrepreneurial leanings, including “Entrepreneur of the Year, State of Missouri”. He was awarded the “Beauty and the Beast award by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for contributions to the community and the foundation. He serves as Chairman of Business Advisory Board of the Academy of Information Technology in Miami-Dade County school system, part of the National Academy Foundation www.naf.org. Mr. Funkhouser earned an International MBA from Nyenrode University, The Netherlands School of Business, and a Bachelor of Science from Washington University. Mr. Funkhouser is fluent in Spanish, and speaks some Dutch. Mr. Funkhouser’s current goal is to build this fifth company to become a highly attractive candidate for corporate acquisition. Regarding Mr. Funkhouser’s business philosophy, he believes in: “Knowing who is best at what, and knowing who needs the best!”
