You’ve seen them in your local mall, those odd little transparent plastic cubes slowly printing some useless trinket. This is consumer-level 3D printing and quite different to what’s happening in the industrial sector.

3D printers are being effectively used across a broad range of industries including Aerospace and Healthcare. They are printing in varied materials including plastic and Direct Metal Printing – perfect for complex metal parts that need to be manufactured quickly.

There is pretty big gap between what’s possible at the industrial end of the spectrum compared to what’s available at the consumer end. This gap will be closed when companies start to change their delivery business models.
