With the introduction of .NET Core, Microsoft has opened up a new world of possibilities to .NET developers who used to be confined to working on windows. We now have a truly cross platform runtime with the freedom to build software the way we want. However, as great as that sounds, there are some caveats. On top of that, .NET Core adds yet another variant of .NET for us to deal with. In this session, we will discuss what exactly .NET Core is, what it offers us and where it sits in relation to the full featured .NET Framework. We will also identify some of the trade offs you should consider when migrating your applications and libraries to .NET Core. Along the way, we’ll also talk about .NET Standard and how it helps to unify the .NET ecosystem.
