Job of the Week: Node.js Developer – Palm Beach County, Florida

Our Boca Raton and New York City based client is seeking Software Engineer to help take the company to the next level. They use a mix of languages including Python, Node.js and PHP.  Front-end frameworks utilized include Angular.js and jQuery. On the Back-end MySQL is the primary database with other tools used deeper analytics.

Requirements:

  • 5+-years’ experience as a Software Engineer
  • Experience with Python, PHP, and/or Node.js (more than one language is a big bonus)
  • The ability to learn new languages and technologies quickly
  • Experience with MySQL
  • Experience with HTML/CSS/Javascript/AngularJS
  • A desire to work with large amounts of data
  • A passion for software development and a strong interest in solving business problems
  • Knowledge of AWS
  • Ability to take ownership and direction of applications developed
  • Compulsion to ask questions and keep the dialogue open with engineers and business stakeholders
  • Excitement about trying and learning new technologies

Asif Malik // Panel Moderator

Asif Malik is an independent consultant in IT Architecture and Design space. He has interest in Human Development, in general, the role IT plays in it. He is currently engaged with offshore companies to develop solutions for Cognitive Era especially those based on IBM Watson APIs. He is also deeply involved in the development of 3D modeling solutions for IT Architecture. Mr. Malik is IBM Middleware User Group lead for last 10 years and currently committee chair for events and memberships at SFTA. He envisioned, planned and implemented this idea of an event on Cognitive Computing from SFTA Platform. He is very excited to see it actually happening.

Bassem Alhalabi // Associate Professor of Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University.

Dr. Alhalabi is an Associate Professor of Computer Engineering at FAU’s main campus of Boca Raton. His primary area of expertise is Embedded, Wireless, IoT, and Smart Control Systems, which span over consumer, industrial, educational and medical applications. Currently, he is developing smart healthcare devices to improve general healthy living especially for elderly people and autistic children, and environmental applications. Dr. Alhalabi has conducted sponsored research and has over 80 publications in IEEE and other institutions journals and conference proceedings. For his research, he created Embedded Systems graduate and undergrad courses with hands-on labs.

Carmen Suarez // Miami-Dade County

Carmen Suarez has been an employee of Miami-Dade County for over 36 years. Upon completion of her Bachelor of Science in Systems Analysis degree at the University of Miami, she joined the Information Technology Department as an entry level Systems Analyst in the Database Administration Unit. Throughout the years she has risen through the ranks and held positions as a database administrator, applications developer and technical manager in several IT disciplines within the organization. She is currently the Division Director in charge of 6 IT managers, with a total staff of over 100, belonging to the Enterprise Architecture Division.

Jeff Rogers // Director, Healthcare Innovation Consultant at IBM Corporation

Jeff Rogers leads the North American team responsible for Industry Solution sales to government and healthcare clients. Focus solutions areas include Health and Human Services programs, Smarter Cities/Government, Emergency Management, Enterprise Health Analytics.

Amazon South Florida – 50,000 jobs, $50 billion revenue influx

South Florida has made the final 20 in a bid for Amazon’s 2nd HQ!

Miami is on the list of 20 finalists for Amazon’s second headquarters — HQ2, for short. And by Miami, we mean Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. The economic development agencies in each county teamed up and submitted an application to go for the gold. It’s South Florida’s most savvy display of regional cooperation yet.

Amazon is conducting what is likely the most competitive and public competition ever to land a corporate headquarters. It promises to bring 50,000 jobs, plus $50 billion influx of revenue. With cities across the country doing backflips to nab HQ2, there are also high expectations that Amazon, too, will jump through hoops to fulfill its promises wherever it goes.
