Time to dump your Datacenter?

Prominent executives in healthcare and other industries are predicting a drastic shift from on-premise IT infrastructure into the cloud. That includes electronic health records, clinical decision support and analytics. Every time Carolinas HealthCare System gets rid of server or storage hardware, someone in the IT department takes out a roll of red tape. They cut off two pieces and lay those down on the floor in the shape of an X, as in: Do not put any new hardware here.

Moving to the cloud will free up precious capital which can be used generate revenue and improve in-house skills and services.- potentially putting you one step ahead of your competitors. Read the full article here.

Tim Huckaby and Billy Hollis headline GCUG Pi Meeting on 3/15

GCUG 23rd Annual Geek Holiday Party will be celebrating National Pi Day on 3/15 6PM-9PM at Cendyn Spaces in Boca Raton, Fl

For more info contact Maureen Homnick mo@homnick.com

For our 23rd annual Holiday Party we couldn’t think of a better Geek holiday to celebrate than National Pi Day, even if it will be on the 15th and not the 14th. Pi Day was recognized as a National Holiday due to the work of long time GCUG enthusiast, Jonathon Zuck, now President of ACT The App Association, back in 2009.

The venue is set and Cendyn Spaces (thanks Davey No) in Boca Raton won over Silver Ball Museum in Delray Beach. Sherv is once again in charge of the bar and is promising a wide selection of beers and wines along with specialty cocktails. Paul put the menu together with items like Truffle Antipasto Skewers, Tempura Shrimp and Lobster Mac n Cheese. Start time is 6pm and theme this year is St Paddy Day Geek, so get out your St Pats gear and Geek it up!

Back for some killer Futuristic User Interface presentations are our usual suspects of speakers Tim Huckaby (12th appearance) and Billy Hollis (4th appearance). Look for a lot of Cognitive API interfaces that will aide future UI’s.

A Developers Introduction to HoloLens by Billy Hollis

Windows Holographic and the HoloLens device promises to open new doors for developers and customers. This session will introduce you to the world of Windows Holographic and HoloLens. You’ll learn what you need to get started, what programming skills you can already leverage and what you need to learn. Just as the web and WPF changed how applications were designed and built, Windows Holographic introduces additional design and development constraints. You’ll see how you can develop for HoloLens even if you don’t have a device. You’ll see HoloLens in action and have a chance to try HoloLens out yourself.

The Future in UX and Cortana Cognitive APIs by Tim Huckaby

Timmy takes you into future of User Interface design by enabling natural and contextual interaction with tools that augment users’ experiences using the power of machine-based intelligence. He shows how to tap into an ever-growing collection of powerful artificial intelligence algorithms for vision, speech, language, and knowledge
